Katherine J. Leslie, age 68, of Beckemeyer, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese. She was born March 31, 1949 at Christian Welfare Hospital in East St. Louis, IllInois, daughter of the late Charles and Evalee (Pyles) Smith.

Katherine is survived by her husband, William Leslie, whom she married December 19,1968 in Carlyle, Illinois; three children: William Leslie, Jr. of Carrollton, Georgia, Matthew (Michelle) Leslie of Carlyle, Illinois, and Rebecca (Phillip) Bessire of Beckemeyer; six grandchildren: Phillip Bessire, IV, Ashton Bessire, Sean Bessire, Hannah Leslie, Maya Leslie, and Nia Leslie; two brothers: Charles Smith of Glen Carbon, Illinois, William Smith of Tennessee; one sister: Martha Solis of Beckermeyer, Illinois
Besides her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by one brother: Jerry Smith.

Katherine was a published author and poet. She was very creative and loved crafting projects of all kinds.

A memorial celebration of Katherine's life well be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2017 at the American Legion, 391 Louis St. Beckemeyer, Illinois.
