Phyllis A.  Rankin
Phyllis A. Rankin, 94, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, formerly of Atlanta, Illinois, died June 12, 2017 at Oliver Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL after a brief illness.

Phyllis was born on April 8, 1923, near Gays, and grew up in Cooks Mills near Mattoon, Illinois, where she graduated from High School. She was a daughter of Arch W. and Lillian F. (Dawson) Chronic. Phyllis married Darrell W. Rankin on August 21, 1943 in Mattoon. He died July 19, 1973. Surviving are children John K. (Barbara) Rankin, of Granby, Colorado, Jay D. (Debra) Rankin, of Gallatin, Tennessee (formerly of Edwardsville), and Jill R. (Dennis) McNeese, of Bloomington; grandchildren Nathan (Micala) Rankin, Nicholas Rankin, Kate (Adam) VanOpstall, and Lts. Blaise (Bethany) McNeese; and, great grandchildren Jack and Timothy Rankin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister June Niemeyer, and brother Zane Chronic.

Phyllis was a homemaker for many years. She then worked in Underwriting at Country Financial in Bloomington. Phyllis was a member of and served on several committees at the Atlanta Christian Church including Sisters in Service; was on the board and volunteered at the Atlanta Public Library; and was involved in many Atlanta community functions. Phyllis loved her children and grandchildren, and participated in their numerous activities. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, making ceramics, painting, and helping others, and was known for her pies that she shared with many. Phyllis resided at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon from 2010 until present.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Atlanta Christian Church, 300 NE Third St., Atlanta, IL. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Private interment will be held at Atlanta Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Christian Church or Atlanta Public Library.
