Obituary for Grace Eileen Mehallow (Stewart)

Grace Eileen Mehallow (Stewart)
Grace Eileen Mehallow passed away peacefully in her O'Fallon, IL home of 50 years on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. She was born to the late James and Barbara (Scheuren) Stewart on March 29, 1931 in the house that her daddy built in Lavelle, Pa. Several other loved ones left before her: her husband, Joseph Mehallow, sisters: Rose Bogikes, Ethel Leibig, and Elizabeth Remaley; brothers: Frances Stewart and an infant; a dear niece and nephew.
Many loved ones survive. Grace's brother, William Stewart of Springfield, IL, and sister, Theresa "Ann" Gregonis of Jessup MD, continue to keep the wonderful memories of their childhood. Grace started her career as a telephone operator and continued as an administrative assistant for the US Air Force, but found her calling in motherhood. Grace was the supportive and loving mother of two daughters: Ann (James) Lamkins of Ladue, MO and Mary (Steven) Schmidt of O'Fallon, IL and the devoted and loving fan of her son, Joseph (Sheila) Mehallow of Maryville, IL. Much joy was added to her life with the addition of grandchildren: Adam (Danielle Ranzini), Julie, Alex (Stephanie), and John Stroh; Ryan and Jacob Mehallow. Grace welcomed a great-grandson, Devin Stroh, with much love. Several nieces and nephews also mourn her passing.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in O'Fallon. A funeral mass will immediately follow. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

In her final months, great care was provided by her grandson, Adam Stroh with support from Hospice of Southern Illinois. Donations may be made to either.
