Obituary for Ronald O. Groom

Ronald O.  Groom
Ronald Groom, I, age 80, of Swansea, died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born September 7, 1934 in Bellevile, the son of Ollie and Agnes (Simon) Groom. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jeanette (Johnson) Groom, whom he married December 25, 1958. Also surviving are two children: Michael R. (Brenda) Groom of Cahokia and Karin (Mark) Ellis of Smithton; three grandchildren: Ronald O. (Buddie) Groom, II of Bangs, TX, Kayce Suzann Ellis of Smithton and Karcyn Elizabeth Ellis of Smithton; and two great-grandchildren: Thomas Ollie Groom and Sunny Brynn Groom. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Fern "Dolly" Cardella.

He served in the US Navy. He was a dedicated Volunteer Fireman for over 25 years for the Camp Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, and was also the photographer for the Swansea Fire Department for five years. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Swansea Police Dept. and the EMTs for their quick response, and also to the staff of the Emergency Room Dept. at Belleville Memorial Hospital.

Vistitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2015 at Kalmer Memorial Services, located on Rt. 50 between Lebanon and O'Fallon. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation. Memorial contributions may be given to the Backstoppers. Internet visitors may register online at www.KalmerMemorialServices.com.
