Robert Stanish, age 78, of Lebanon, died suddenly November 28, 2014 in Urbana, Illinois. He was born February 6, 1936 in Benton, IL, the son of the late Tony and Mary (Hake) Stanish. He is survived by two children: Jon (Robin) Stanish of Highland and Lindley Stanish of League City, TX; two grandchildren: Bradley Brustmeyer of Highland and Hailey Brustmeyer of League City, TX; his partner of 20 years, Murella Bosse of Lebanon; and four step-grandchildren: Noah, Annabelle, Zachary and Benjamin.

Bob graduated from Lebanon Community High School in 1954, earned a BA degree from McKendree College in 1960 and a MS degree from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville in 1965. He taught at the elementary, secondary and university levels, and taught gifted and talented sixth grade students in the LeClaire, Columbus and N.O. Nelson school districts in Edwardsville, Illinois. Bob was also a school administrator in various capacities. He had been employed for the last 18 years by McKendree University as an associate faculty member in psychology. In 2006, Bob was awarded the first ever associate faculty award by McKendree for excellence in teaching.

A nationally and internationally recognized author and consultant to several school districts in the US and Canada, Bob’s publications include 23 teacher resource books and numerous articles on teaching strategies and educational issues, particularly aimed at the creative thinking processes and problem solving strategies for gifted and talented children.

Visitaiton will be held from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, 520 E. US Highway 50, O’Fallon, Il. 62269, 618-632-5562. As generations of Bob’s family, dating back to the 1880s, have graduated from McKendree University, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed toward the general scholarship fund at McKendree University, in Lebanon, Illinois.
