Obituary for Joseph A. Bercume

Joseph Bercume, age 70, of Collinsville, died Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was born February 20, 1944 in Watertown, NY, the son of the late Loretta Stevens. He married Carol Pieper in October of 1979. She preceded him in death July 24, 2012. He is survived by six children: Joseph (Mary) Bercume, Jr. of Denver, CO, Jacques (Rachel) Bercume of Chatsworth, GA, Jeannine (Ronnie) Brasel of Huntsville, AL, Michelle (Rich) Reckamp of O'Fallon, IL, Heather Schoneman of Belleville, IL and Lee Schoneman, also of Belleville; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four brothers: Ted (Candy) Stevens, Patrick Stevens, Brian (Cheryl) Stevens and Thomas Stevens, all of New York state.

Mr. Bercume was a drug and alcohol counselor, and was retired from the US Navy. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed camping, painting, fishing and watching wrestling on television.

Visitation will be from 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Kalmer Memorial Services, located on Rt. 50 between Lebanon and O'Fallon. According to his wishes, his remains will be cremated and interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
