Obituary for Robert G. Herbst
Robert Herbst, age 64, of St. Charles, MO, died at 1:54 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at deGreef Hospice House in St. Louis, MO. He was born February 3, 1950 in St. Paul, MN, the son of the late Robert G. and Shirley (Cotter) Herbst, Sr. He married Elaine Lager on December 27, 1991 in Aviston, IL. She survives. Also surviving are two children: Robert Joseph (Krystal) Herbst of Oak Harbor, WA and Cathryn Ruth Herbst of Philidelphia, PA; two brothers: Tim (Diane) Herbst of Maple Grove, MN and Tom Herbst of Coon Rapids, MN; a half-brother, Steve (Cindy) Herbst of Minneapolis, MN and a half-sister, Shelly (Joe) Eichorn of Cohassett, MN. He is also survived by his step-mother, Darla Herbst; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Ruth Lager of Aviston; two sisters-in-law: Lynn (Bob) Rinella of Aviston and Jackie (Charlie) Chiarlonza of Aviston; and two brothers-in-law: Larry (Connie) Lager of Aviston and Gerry (Kay Royer) of Aviston. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Wanda Lager.
Mr. Herbst was an airline pilot, starting his career in 1974 with Ozark Airlines, and subsequently Trans World Airlines and American Airlines. He retired in 2010. He was also the owner of Airlinefinancials.com, a company which provided financial analysis for aviation groups. He enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing in his kayak.
A celebration of his life will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Fox and the Hound, 17416 Chesterfield Airport Rd, Chesterfield, MO.
