Obituary for Marlene "Nana" Cange (Tapley)

Marlene "Nana" Cange, age 82, of Edwardsville, passed away with her family by her side at 2:15 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017, at her residence. She was born July 10, 1934, in Cairo, IL, the daughter of the late James "Bud" and Rebia (Hendrick) Tapley. Marlene married her one and only Robert “Bob” Joseph Cange September 12, 1953. He preceded her in death January 5, 1989.

Nana is survived by three children: Joe (Chris) Cange of Worden, Judy (Tim) Delaney of Wildwood, MO and Jeff (Pam) Cange of Edwardsville; five grandchildren: Steven Delaney, Jennifer"JJ" (James) Jokerst, Rachel (Michael) Frazier, Robert Cange, and Toby (John) DeLuca; three great-grandchildren: Ali, Kylee and Ashlen; a sister, Kathy (Bob) Hotop of Cape Girardeau, MO., and cousin, Brenda Pirtle of Cape Girardeau, MO. She was also loved and supported by her brothers-in-law, Bill (Leslie), Jim(Gail), Dick(Pat), her many beloved nieces and nephews and dear friend, Vera Wuellner. Besides her husband and parents, Nana was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sarah Jane; and her brother, Jimmy Tapley.

Nana loved when her grandkids and their friends came by for butter noodles and to play music. Nana was a hands on kind of person-if you needed sandwiches made for a Christmas party at school, Nana was there, if you needed mostaccoli made for an event, Nana was there!
Nana loved to read, play piano, travel, watch college football (Notre Dame and Florida State) and laugh with family and friends! She loved to eat out!

Marlene fell for Bob the summer of 1953 while Bob was stationed in Wichita Falls, (Sheppard Air Force Base)TX., he proposed over the phone, she received her rings
in the mail and were married while on leave. Together they raised 3 children while living in Wood River. Marlene worked at JC Penney, Eastgate, Ursaline Convent, Alton, and retired from St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton as a Central Supply Technician. After retirement, Nana moved to Northwest Florida where she lived until 2007, then returned to the Edwardsville area.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Pitchford Funeral Home, 2555 Vaughn Road in Wood River. A funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville with Rev. Paul Kala officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hill Cemetery in Wood River.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, St. Jude's Hospital or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Kalmer Memorial Services in Lebanon and Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River are in charge of arrangements.
