Derek M. Kaffer, age 40, of Belleville, died Thursday, February 23, 2017 at his residence. Derek was a free spirit with a plethora of talents. He was and "ace" mechanic who could fix anything and was excellent cook. He was looking forward to Spring and playing softball. He had a genuine love of animals and made an impact on every person he met. Anyone whomever met Derek will be saddened by his departure from this earth. He truly believed in living life to its fullest.

Derek was born August 1, 1976 in Springfield, IL the son of Kenneth and Linda M. (Theismann) Kaffer. His mother preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Henry and Josephine (Jansen) Theismann; his paternal grandparents: Donald and Doris (Blaufuss) Kaffer; and his step-mother, Charlotte (Mertens) Kaffer.

Surviving are his father, Kenneth Kaffer of Belleville; one brother, Ryan (Jennifer) Kaffer of Troy, IL ; and his niece and nephew, Ryan and Madison; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousin.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at
St. Henry's Catholic Church, 5313 West Main St., Belleville, IL 62226. Immediately following the visitation mass will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, March 4, 2017; with Fr. Ken York officiating.
