Laurence  Swaim
Laurence E. Swaim, 68, of Trenton, Illinois, born October 2nd, 1947 in Eugene, Oregon, died Sunday, May 1st, at Carlyle Health Center. Larry grew up in Springfield, Oregon and graduated from Springfield High School where he was active in sports and music. He played trumpet and participated with the Springfield High School Marching Bands trip to the Rose Bowl when he was a senior He attended and graduated from CBC in Springfield, Missouri where his mother, Winnie Swaim, was a professor of music. In the years following, Larry served as minister of youth and music in California, Oregon, and Ohio. He was an outstanding vocalist, choral director, and instrumentalist. He directed choirs of a hundred voices, organized youth choir tours on the west coast and recorded albums. He also directed youth camps, organized youth retreats, and planned youth activities on a weekly basis.
Larry loved the outdoors and fished the lakes and streams of his beloved Oregon as well as hunting in the mountains of his grandfather’s farm. He brought great energy and enthusiasm to every project or assignment. Before suffering a stroke in 2007, he worked for Life Touch Church Directories covering the Illinois and Missouri region.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence, and Winnie Swaim (nee Hansen).
Surviving are his sons, Jerry, (Amanda) Swaim of Trenton, Charlie, fiancee (Kendall) of Santa Rosa, California, and brothers. Jeff (Kathy) Swaim of Springfield, Missouri, Dennis (Carol) Swaim of Springfield, Oregon. His Grandchildren, Zachary Swaim, and Sophia Swaim of Trenton, his former wife Roberta Swaim of Trenton, along with uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
