Aloys J. "Ollie"  Santel
Aloys J. "Ollie" Santel, age 72, of Cedar Rapids, IA, formerly of Damiansville, died Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Northbrooke Manor in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Esther; three sons: Timothy J. (Gina) Santel of Thompson Station, TN, Terrence J. Santel of Cedar Rapids and Tod J. (Renea) Santel of Robins, IA; nine grandchildren: Cody and Shelby, Logan, Landon, and Lily, Margaret, Joshua, Jacob and Ruth; and his siblings: Robert (Ellarine) Santel of Damiansville, IL, Bernadine Koopman of Damiansville, Dolores Varel of Bartelso, IL, and Diane (Gene) Masterson of Damiansville and brother and sister in-laws Dennis and Donna Beckmann of Aviston, Ron and Jackie Maue of Posey and Janet Santel of Damiansville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clemens and Sarah Santel; a brother, Alfred Santel; his father-n-law and mother-in-law, Alvin and Dolores Beckmann; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ralph Koopman, Jerome Varel, and Lou and Phyllis Kohrman.

Ollie graduated from Mater Dei High School in Breese in 1961. Before retirement, he worked as a carpenter for Local 662 United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He was a former member of St. Damian's Men Sodality and Damiansville Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball as well as spending time with his grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Kalmer Memorial Services, located on Rt. 50 between Lebanon and O'Fallon. Inurnment will be held at St. Damians Cemetery in Damiansville immediately following the service. Memorials may be given in his name to Unity Point Hospice, 290 Blair’s Ferry Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
