Obituary for Edward Wentz Sr.

Edward  Wentz Sr.
Edward Bohm Wentz. Sr., of Edwardsville, Illinois passed away at 11:11 pm Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born January 4, 1941 in Alton, Illinois, the son of Frances Margaret Bohm Wentz and Charles A. Wentz, Sr.

Edward and his wife, Candy (Karen Jane nee Meyers) were married November 26, 1965 at the Kirkwood Methodist Church, Kirkwood, Missouri. They felt most fortunate to be able to celebrate 50 years of marriage.

His is survived by his wife and son, Edward Bohm Wentz, Jr and wife, Patty, two step grandchildren: Ciara Kitley and husband, Dan and Doug Tsui, two step great grandchildren: Victoria and Rayden Kitley. Also surviving are his brother, Charles A Wentz, Jr and wife, Joan. Nieces: Sharon Evans and husband Berry, Suzanne Cook, Sheila Wentz and Nephew, Christopher Wentz and wife, Karla. Five great nieces: Reygan Wentz, Jessica Bolen, Meredith Bolen, Bailey Cook, and Megan Cook, as well as many cousins and wonderful friends.

Ed was an Edwardsville native and quite proud of it. He was a member of the EHS class of 1959. He then attended Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He also attended McKendree College and Washington University. He received his Masters Degree at SIUE and went on to earn a Specialist Degree. He was an educator and administrator in the Collinsville Unit 10 School District for over 30 years.

He truly loved his Lord and enjoyed his spiritual life with his singing and service to others. He was a member of the Chaplaincy Program at Anderson Hospital. He conducted bible studies at Rosewood Care Center and with his dear friend, Jay Worthey, especially enjoyed a weekly bible study with the Edwardsville Terrace residents.

He loved the game of golf, the sport of fishing and the sharing of his sharp wit.

He and his wife, Candy, opened 244 Antiques many years ago and spent many happy hours in pursuit of the next treasure. The business continues to thrive.

Please honor his memory by caring about each other and doing what you can when you can.

A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 9:30 - 10:30 am followed by a memorial service at Kalmer Memorial Services, located on Rt. 50 between Lebanon and O'Fallon, officiated by his dear friend, Delmar Tegtmeier. Following the service a gathering will be held at Fiona's Restaurant in Edwardsville.
