Obituary for Kathleen "Smokey" Markus (Foppe)
Kathleen "Smokey" Markus, age 66, of Aviston, died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at her residence. She was born May 20, 1949, the daughter of Bernice "Becy" (Fuhler) Foppe of Aviston and the late Raymond Foppe. She married James Markus May 3, 1969. He survives. Also surviving are three children: Scott (Deonna) Markus of Aviston, Stacey (Shannon) Boruff of Germantown and Steven (fiance Emily Sherman) Markus of Breese; six grandchildren: Coty and Dalton Boruff, Mikayla, Brianna and Noah Markus, and Raelyn Markus; three brothers: Glenn (Colleen) Foppe of Carlyle, Tom (Mary) Foppe of St. Louis and Jeff (Shawn) Foppe of Springfield, TN; and two sisters: Donna (Mike) Nettemeier of Breese and Elizabeth "Bets" (Ron) Eversgerd of Germantown. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bob and Polly Markus, Ivan and Bonnie Markus, Sandy and Marlin Fix, Joan and Paul Jinks, Dave and Rita Markus and Roger Markus.
Kathy enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending her grandchildren's school and extracurricular events, planting flowers and landscape gardening.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Septemebr 24, 2015 at Kalmer Memorial Services, on Rt 50 between Lebanon and O'Fallon. After the visitation, her remains will be cremated, according to her wishes. Burial of her ashes will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to: Central PAWS, Aviston Elementary Boosters, or Hannah's Playground.
