Obituary for Sadie W. Thigpen (Ward)

Sadie W.  Thigpen (Ward)
Mother Sadie Ward Thigpen was the first born to the union of Gertrude White Glenn and Junies Ward on April 18, 1927 in St. Elmo, Louisana. She migrated to East St. Louis, IL in 1932 with her maternal grandparents, Rosie and Charlie White, who were responsible for her rearing.

Mother Thigpen attended school in East St. Louis, and is a 1947 graduate of Lincoln High School. She furthered her education at SCC College. She worked as a Reading Teacher's Assistant in School District 189 in East St. Louis. She retired in 1994.

Mother Thigpen confessed a hope in Christ at an early age, was baptized and united with the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. She was a lifetime member working faithfully in Sunday School, BYPU,Young Adult Choir, and as a radio announcer for the "Sunday Night Revival Hour" sponsosred by Morning Star. Mother Thigpen was a devoted member who loved to praise the Lord. She raised her children and grandchildren to reverence God and encouraged them to be willing workers of the church for the Lord.

Mother Thigpen was united in holy matrimony to the late Atty. Elasko Thigpen in 1947. To this union, seven children were born. She was preceded in death by two sons: Elasko, Jr. and Harold Thigpen; two daughters: Lynette and Sheila Thigpen; her grandparents, mother, father, five brotheres and two sisters.

Mother Thigpen leaves to cherish her memory one son, Pierre Thigpen of Los Angeles, CA; two daughters: Sharon Thigpen Hillman of Cahokia, IL and Denise Thigpen Webb of Belleville, IL; three brothers: Bishop Joshua (Martha) Ward of Detroit, MI, Randolph (Irene) Ward and Sidney Ward, both of Monroe, LA; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews; cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 5801 State St in East St. Louis, IL.
