Obituary for George Mehner
George Mehner, age 91, of New Athens, died at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at New Athens Home for the Aged in New Athens, IL. He was born January 21, 1923, son of the late Alvin J. and Isabell (Boxdorfer) Mehner, Sr. He married Isabel Rohr October 11, 1952. SHe preceded him in death November 5, 1997. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Mark G. Mehner; three brothers: Fred Mehner, Alvin Mehner, Jr., and Robert Mehner; and three sisters: Freda Thomas, Evelyn Lanter and Ruby Hurst. He is survived by two sisters: Luella Fiorina of New Athens and Helen (Richard) Rossler of Saratoga, CA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mehner was a laborer and belonged to the Laborer's Union for 39 years. He was known for his keen sense of humor. The family would like to thank the staff at New Athens Home for the Aged for their kind and caring service.
According to his wishes, his remains were cremated. Burial of his ashes will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in New Athens. Memorial contributions may be given to the New Athens Home for the Aged. Internet visitors may register online at www.KalmerMemorialServices.com. Kalmer Memorial Services in Lebanon is in charge of arrangements.
