Obituary for John David Tonkinson
John David Tonkinson, age 65, of Edwardsville, died at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Highland Healthcare Center. He was born July 13, 1949 in Jacksonville, FL, the son of the late Ralph L. and Sylvia (Paul) Tonkinson. He is survived by a sister, Theodora Darlene "Theo" Tonkinson of Edwardville.
Mr. Tonkinson was a registered nurse, most recently at Alton Mental Health Center in Alton. He was an avid chess player, was the former Associate National Tournament Director and Secretary of the Southwest Illinois Chess League. He was also an eight year veteran of the US Navy.
According to his wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
