Obituary for James A. Johnson

James A. Johnson, age 68, of Cahokia, died at 10:45 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 at Touchette Regional Hospital in Centreville. He was born July 7, 1945 in East St. Louis, IL, the son of the late Willard Paul and Opal (Garden) Johnson. He married Tana McGathey January 16, 1976. She survives. Also surviving are three nephews: Jody Johnson of Valmeyer, IL, Paul Johnson of Durham, NC and Scott Sprague of Whitehall, IL; one niece, Terry Tune of Breese; his father-inlaw and step-mother-in-law, Boyd and Bonnie McGathey of Granite City; and two brothers-in-law: Jeff McGathey of Granite City and Boyd McGathey, Jr. of Kansas City, MO. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Sprague.

Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Vietnam.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
