Obituary for Carl A. Smith Sr.

Carl A. Smith, Sr., age 93, of Mascoutah, formerly of Lebanon, died at 6:16 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. He was born December 1, 1920 in Collinsville, the son of the late Jesse E. and Ida May (Jones) Smith. He married Edna W. Rochell October 10, 1944. She preceded him in death August 29, 2010.

He is survived by three children: Diana Marie Bohannon of Lebanon, Patricia Ann (Robert) Moss of Ashville, NC and Kathryn Lee (Terry, Sr.) Rutherford of Louisville, TN; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl A. Smith, Jr; one grandchild, James R. Smith; and seven brothers and sisters: Charles Floyd Smith, Ruth Hester Lindley, James Fred Smith, William Harold Smith, Mildred Mary Weber, Helen Maxine Jones and Eva May Smith.

Mr. Smith was retired from Midwest Rubber in Sauget, IL. He was a US Army veteran of WW II and was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lebanon.

Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Kalmer Memorial Services on Rt. 50 between Lebanon and O'Fallon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lebanon. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Lebanon. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul United Church of Christ or to the Cambridge House in Swansea. Internet visitors may register online at www.KalmerMemorialServices.com.
